The main feature of the forest park is the natural arboretum, dating back to about 1740, with trees, shrubs and exotic plants from all over the world . The castle is now used as a conference centre . Also in the park is a lake stocked with trout, a sculpture trail, orienteering course, maze, picnic and barbecue areas and a Visitor centre with cafe . The park entrance is in the middle of Castlewellan town .
There is space for 81 touring vans and 20 tents . It is not open all year round, groups of six or more can use the park during the low season . My thanks to the Forest Service for supplying the photographs .
