In a wooded park above the river Blackwater, the early Victorian house of The Argory is surrounded by sweeping lawns with two formal gardens . The house is virtually unaltered and contains many interesting items of furniture, an 1824 Bishop's barrel organ as an example . Outside is an imposing stableyard with coach house and carriages . It still has it's acetylene gas plant, to this day the house does not have any electric .The ground floor is suitable for wheelchair access as are most of the grounds . Open : Easter 2 - 6pm : April, May and September - weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays : June, July and August - 2 - 6pm daily except Tuesday . |
