Called after the name of its founder, Archbishop Richard Robinson (Primate 1765 - 1794) who was responsible for most of Georgian Armagh . Established in 1771, it was the first public library outside Dublin . The library is the repository of a fine collection of antiquities put together by Primate Marcus Gervais Beresford, a successor to Robinson as Archbishop . There are many ancient manuscripts in the library fulfilling the same purpose .
